With the recent addition of several high resolution full frame DSLRs, the question extracting detail from raw files has become increasingly important. Nature Windows has done a good job of comparing six RAW Converter software and writes;

“In the end, the differences in image quality are subtle enough to be insignificant in all but the largest prints. This is particularly the case with the post processed set of images.”
